OneBeacon Healthcare Group® provides professional liability and other specialized coverages targeting a variety of customer groups including: hospitals, physicians and complex risks; free-standing medical facilities; senior living organizations; and managed care organizations. A flexible approach combined with experience and expertise allows us to provide solutions for a variety of risks.  

We'd like to keep you informed of where we stand in this fast moving healthcare liability landscape with the rapidly changing carrier appetites and fledgling markets. Our underwriting teams are fully staffed, and we look forward to working with you to craft solutions for your risks.

We continue to tailor our products to meet changing delivery models and emerging risks. We hope the following will provide a quick update by segment to give you a clear understanding of our appetite and capabilities.

Hospitals, Physicians and Complex Risks

  • We look forward to introducing our new Physician Group Professional Liability Policy in 2017, as well as implementing revised physician rates for all complex risk accounts.
  • We have also expanded our appetite to include physician group accounts with a minimum premium of $50,000.
  • We selectively offer excess physician limits where OneBeacon writes the primary policy.
  • We continue to be a market leader in stand-alone ERP for physicians with revised rates for 2017.
  • We continue to maintain a broad appetite for hospital placements including primary, excess, umbrella and re-insurance of captives. Limits up to $25M available.

Managed Care

  • We target all market and small managed care risks for managed care errors & omissions and management liability coverages.
  • We are able to entertain primary and excess, as well as separate or shared limit options for management liability coverages.
  • We will closely monitor changes to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) under the new administration and the impact on the managed care segment.

Medical Facilities

  • Growth remains brisk in this segment and our appetite remains consistent. Target classes include medical staffing, home healthcare, specialty pharmacies, laboratory, dialysis centers, employee wellness, urgent care, medical imaging and more.   • Mergers and acquisitions remain prevalent in this segment, and our flexible underwriting and form approach enables us to address the unique exposures and contractual requirements that come with these types of events. 
  • We offer claims made and occurrence professional and general liability coverages, additional insureds physician and HNOA coverage, and umbrella and excess coverage.

Senior Living Organizations

  • With final adjustments to our appetite for this customer group complete, we continue to offer competitive terms on facilities that meet our venue and quality requirements.
  • Our target states are:  
    • Southeast - NC, VA, GA and AL
    • Northeast - PA, CT, ME and VT
    • Midwest - IL, IN, MI and OH
    • West - TX, CO, AZ, UT, ID, WA, OR, ND and SD
  • Our target risks are 100-250 beds or accounts with greater than 15 beds and $15,000 in premium.
  • We target skilled, assisted and independent living facilities and continuing care retirement communities.
  • We offer first dollar primary coverage as well as umbrella and excess coverage.
  • We will not consider risks with exposures located in California, Arkansas, Kentucky, New Mexico, Oklahoma and West Virginia, as well as Cook County and the five boroughs located in and around New York City.

  • Expert risk management content and webinars are available to all OneBeacon Healthcare Group insureds.
  • OneBeacon hosts monthly webinars for insureds and other invited attendees.
  • Our claims team has an average of twenty years of claims handling experience, with nursing and legal backgrounds that bring a real world view to a claim. This experience allows us to apply a unique perspective to nearly any claims situation.
